Is 925 sterling silver hypoallergenic?

925 silver is usually fine for sensitive ears, but watch the 7.5 percent alloy. Most people react to nickel, which sterling silver does not contain. If you are extremely sensitive, look for fine silver (999) or silver with a clear protective coating. I have metal allergies and 925 studs never bother me.

Thai silver / hill tribe silver is usually 95-99 percent silver, softer and darker-finished, with hand-stamped designs. It is not the same as 925. It tarnishes faster and is more prone to bending. Buy it for the artisanal look, not for durability.
