Where I would actually buy: Charles and Colvard direct for the stone, or Brilliant Earth / James Allen for ring settings. Etsy has great independent jewelers but vet reviews carefully. Amazon is risky unless it is an authorized C&C dealer. Avoid anything under 200 dollars for a 1ct Forever One.

Moissanite vs lab-grown diamond comes down to two things: sparkle style and resale. Lab-grown diamond looks exactly like a natural diamond (subtle, white brilliance) and holds slightly better resale. Moissanite sparkles harder with more rainbow fire and costs about half. If you want 'what a diamond looks like,' choose lab-grown. If you want maximum sparkle per dollar, choose moissanite.

On testers: most standard diamond testers read moissanite as diamond. This is a known issue because both have high thermal conductivity. Testers marketed as 'moissanite detectors' exist but most jewelers do not carry them. A trained eye with a loupe can spot double refraction.

D/VVS1 are diamond grading terms that moissanite sellers borrow loosely. Moissanite has its own grades (Forever One, Forever Brilliant, Forever Classic). The D-VVS1 language on cheap listings is marketing. Buy by the brand grade, not by diamond-adjacent labels.

One thing nobody tells you: moissanite can get a hazy look if you use an ultrasonic cleaner on a poor-quality stone. Stick to warm soapy water and you will be fine.
