Technically you CAN, but you should NOT make a habit of it.
Showering
Occasional showering will not ruin it, but regular exposure causes soap buildup, accelerated tarnish, and can weaken prongs over time.
Swimming Pools - Definitely Remove!
Chlorine causes rapid tarnishing, erodes solder joints, and damages settings. Always remove before chlorinated pools.
Ocean Water
Salt water is less damaging but still causes tarnishing. Rinse with fresh water if exposed.
Safe to Wear in Water
Solid gold 14k+, platinum, stainless steel, titanium are fine for showering.

I have worn my silver necklace daily for 5 years including showers. It tarnishes faster but is not damaged. However my silver ring with a stone lost a stone after 3 years - prongs got weak.
